Dark Cornwall Takeover
Saturday 16th August - 6-9pm at Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery
For one unforgettable evening, Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery opens its doors to the otherworld.
Dark Cornwall invites you on an immersive, interactive journey through four powerful themes - Culture, History, Folklore, and Art - brought vividly to life across the museum’s atmospheric halls.
Wander freely. Choose your path. Guests are welcome to devote their time to one or two chapters, sample a little of each, or simply lose themselves in the grandeur of the museum and the haunting beauty of The International Dark Folklore Exhibition.
CULTURE – Gather for an intimate discussion led by a special guest on ancient Cornish customs and dances, exploring their meaning, symbolism, and an uncertain future.
HISTORY – Join us in the museum’s main hall for a guided encounter with Cornwall’s most intriguing artefacts - from the capstone of Tregiffian Barrow to the Artognou Stone, the Towednack Hoard, and the exquisite Gold Lunula of St Merryn.
FOLKLORE – In the newly refurbished Nature Gallery, a master droll teller brings the legends of Cornwall to life - giants, piskies, dragons, spriggans, Morvoren, and King Arthur himself, surrounded by creatures of land, sea, and sky.
ART – In partnership with Vincent Gothe and Gothe Residency of the Arts, Dark Cornwall, co-hosts The International Dark Folklore Exhibition - a global celebration of myth, memory, and imagination through the work of our collective creative communities. This exhibition stands as a powerful reminder that in an age of automation, human creativity, rooted in experience and emotion, remains vital and irreplaceable.
Tickets are just £6. Raise a glass (alcohol available for purchase), share in the stories, and let the shadows guide you.
